Please let me know what you think of this forum software. It can also be expanded to become more of a Social networking site for deconverts.

Interesting. I'll pop in here from time to time, to see how this software is working.

There is already the AtheistNexus as a social networking site, so that feature may not really be needed, if most of us are already signed up there.

True. Right now I'm interested in using it as a replacement for our current forum and to serve the users that post there. However, there's always room for smaller, more-targeted networking sites. Some people get lost in communities that are too large.

Hi, the new forum looks good. Personally I haven't found a comfortable niche on AtheistNexus and have gotten so much more from the de-conversion community. But the key is having a critical mass of people, which the main blog here has, and the community forum has not. I know there are ex-christian groups on atheist nexus, but is there anything there with a connection to the de-conversion.com site?

Thanks orDover.

atimetorend,

The goal would be to market this site to one day combine the d-C main blog and forum into one site. If we can successful accomplish that, we'll be able to get the critical mass from the main blog.

Give me a few days and I'll market this to increase participation.

v/r,
Paul

I think if the individual blog posts had a link to a relevent discussion in the forums at the end, you'd get a lot more traffic there. I know I have trouble resisting a "click here to discuss!" link. Wink

Also: love the new forum!

Me too.... If you've got something, can you add a new post to the blog and I'll turn off comments and point them here :)

Turning off the blog comments and asking people to post their comments here might help weed out some trolls as well. Although I suppose the same thing could be achieved if the blog comments required you to register first.

Zoe is here. Innocent

So this is what you've been up to. Nice. Like it better then the other one.

BTW, I can't login to the other/original d-C forum without getting an error message, so whoever PM'd me back on May 17th, if you are here, I didn't get the PM. Sorry.

Is there anyway for me to get the PM or was it just from ADMIN telling me about this forum?

Are the comments not working in the old forum? I tried sending a comment three times and it doesn't seem to have gone through.

EA,
It was getting stuck in the SPAM Filter. I "un-stuck" it :)

Wow, are we ever getting a lot of first-time commenters over in the Blog! Not that I mind new people joining the discussion, but I get the feeling that a lot of them are drive-by's and trolls. The obscenity level is way up and the intelligence level is way down. If this sort of thing continues, I would wholeheartedly support requiring registration to comment. This community is so great, I'd hate to see it buried under a flurry of one-time posters.

Ubi,
I guess it's one of the by-products of having a popular post. Neece's most excellent post got over 13,500 views yesterday. I doubt if most of the drive-bys come back. I cleaned up some of the obscentity when it was said in a disrespectful way.

Hi, Paul, I tried to submit a post yesterday and apparently it got stuck in the spam thing again, because I didn't see it. However, I got slammed with 79 e-mails in my in-box because I said I was watching a certain post. This completely filled up my in-box (I don't have much capacity) and wiped out older e-mails, and I suspect is blocking other, needed e-mails from getting through. Is there something that can be done about that? I enjoy participating in the forums but not if I am going to be overwhelmed. One reminder is sufficient. Thanks.

After playing with this forum a bit, I gotta say that I don't like it. It's not easy to find one's way around. It took me a few minutes to find this thread to make this post. Not that I have any solutions as I'm lousy at design. Just saying the site is not intuitive to me, whereas the old one was easier.

On the .com page, when I click on the "join the community link" in the upper right hand corner, it comes up as an error. There might be something wrong with that connection between the .com and .org page.

Sometimes when I try to log in it takes two or three tries before wordpress will direct me here. Sometimes I am just routed to their main page. And the forum site almost never keeps me automatically logged in, although I request it every time. So this seems to be a little buggy yet. Ah, well, it's still a great resource to have.
